Can I swap hard drives in laptops?
I have a broken Dell Inspiron Laptop, i’m going to sell it but since it wont turn on or charge. I want to know if i can take out the hard drive and installing it in my HP laptop to delete any information on it before i sell it. Can it fit and work? or Do i have to buy an IDE hard drive adapter and make the hard drive a slave and install it into an IDE computer?
As far as I know, there are two types of laptop hard drive – older ones are I think 11mm thick and newer ones 9mm. I’ve certainly swapped laptop hard drives before without problem and I am definitely no expert. I’ve also set ones up as external hard drives using those cheap cases from China you find on e-bay. That will probably be the easiest way of wiping the drive before selling. However, would it not be worth more to you to keep the drive and sell the rest as spares?
