Aluminum Radial
Mechanical engineers….I hava a question about o-rings…?
I have an aluminum tube 20mm diameter with a opening of 15.4 mm diameter. I want to install a radial o ring to make it water proof. What do my dimensions need to be…ie groove width ect.
Try consulting a vendor’s list of standard O-Ring sizes like Parker or Green Leaf and pick one off their charts. They will give you the machining tolerances of the OD of the groove as well as the groove width and length. Some other considerations are the operating pressure (if any and if it is a “static” application or a “dynamic” application (stationary or moving respectively).
Most vendors have cross reference tables also.
