Awg Stranded
Electrician Question finding AWG ?
Hi, I’ve been working on this question for a while and its bothering me cause I can’t get it and my textbook is of no help. I hope someone could help me. Here is my question:
A cable has 19 strands and each strand has a diameter of 2.388 mm. Find the AWG.
This is what I did.
2.388mm —–> 0.2338 cm * 0.3937 inches = 0.09204inches
I rounded 0.09204 inches to 0.100 in. Then 0.100 —> 100.0 mils which is then (100 x 100 = 10,000×19 strands) which equals 19 MCM. I have a feeling I’m off somewhere. Thanks for looking at my question. Hopefully someone can help me out.
Once you get it down to cm that should be your answer and then look at the AWG chart and you can find your wire size. Good luck..
