How to control Bipolar stepper motor using parallel port?
I have extracted a stepper motor of reading head from CD ROM drive. It controls the linear motion of the head. But can any body help me to teach the basics of controlling this motor. It has four wires and i want to control it with parallel port. Is it possible to connect the motor with parallel port directly, without using any resistors, transistors and capacitors? Please help me I need to know this for my project work..
No, you’ll need some kind of driver between port and motor as the port can supply only a very small amount of current. But it can be as simple as a single chip with multiple transistors, such as -

However, this circuit won’t quite work with your motor – yours has 4 wires, which probably means that it is a 2-winding bipolar type, which requires a full-bridge drive. See
