what speed dose my tractor pto run at?
i have a david brown 1200 tractor made in1969 what speed dose the power take off runs at .or the rpm .it has two speeds .the reason for this is this.a 9foot topper mower that was conected to the tractor broke. the bolts that hold the pulleys etc in placepulled through the metal of the topper.breakingf the blades.what went wrong .was it the wrong speed at the pto . or vibration any ideas
If you have two speeds for the PTO, one will be 540 rpm, the other will probably be “ground speed” i.e. the faster you are moving forward the faster the PTO will turn. You should run a topper in the 540 rpm position. Not sure if your problem was down to the PTO speed, more likely the blades have become mistimed and hit each other, or they’ve hit something in the ground and caused the damage.
