will my blue moon bulb still cause algae?
my tank came with 2 bulbs bright white and cool blue moon , i know that the White Light helps plants grow and also algae but does the blue light have the same effects on plants bacteria fish and algae as the white?
to extend upon my question , is the blue light in my aquarium functional or purely there for my viewing pleasure should it be turned off when no one is up ?
Yes. The wavelengths of light that cause plant and algae growth are basically those in the visible spectrum, so if you can see it, it can support the growth of algae (and other plants). The brightness has more to do with which plants and which algae species will grow than the color of light does.
Most bacteria are not photosynthetic, but for the ones that are (cyanobacteria), the answer is the same as above.
Most fish can actually see just fine with blue light. The reds and yellows in the light spectrum do not penetrate very deep into the water, so underwater, except in very shallow water, everything looks fairly blue or green anyway.
