Butt Connector
Do alternators just go out or do they slowly loose charge? cuz mines……?
I have 95 Toyota Tercel and a couple of months ago the alternator suddenly quit working, so i went to a salvage yard and got a alternator off a Toyota Passeo and put that on( i couldnt get the wire plug out of either of the alternators so i just cut the three small wires and connected the passeo alternator to my car with butt connectors.
My car ran fine for a couple of weeks but then i was driving home from work at night and had the heater fan and headlights on and the battery indicator light came on on the dash, so i turned off my headlights and the battery indicator light went off.
The next day i took off the output wire on the alternator and cleaned the connections and then put it back on and the car ran perfect and i had charge with all the electrical stuff on. But yesterday it started doing the exact same thing again. It will only charge if i have everything off except the motor of course. So do you think its another burnt up alternator or something else? thanks
time for a new alternator and not a junkyard one.
