There are hundreds of choices for delay guitar pedals, from vintage echo units going for over a $1000 to inexpensive pedals going for about $20. Even though the warm sound of analog and tape delays are highly desirable, the precision and clarity of digital delay has proved to be perfect for most music styles.
This pedal offers the best of worlds in my opinion. Because it offers the most tested digital modeling of analog delays, by its very nature it has fantastic digital ones as well and it comes in a very easy to use format. To have multiple delays available like a multi effects pedal is great, specially for those who don’t want to use a multi effects processor.
Boss DD-7 Review
The new DD-7 is even more impressive while costing about the same. The amount of delay has been increased and there are new sounds included like modulation mixed with delay and an analog preset. There is also a very cool reverse setting and a hold function for sound on sound.
When I wasn’t that hip with the DL4 I was fanatical about the DD-6, in my opinion it was the most practical choice when it came to a dedicated delay pedal. With the DD-7 I think they have done a great job of updating the pedal without raising the price.
Boss DD-3 Review
This one offers the same quality of sound of the Boss DD-7 in a much simpler pedal. the main limitation is that the amount of delay is much shorter. With today’s computer processing power we all have become a little jaded, but the truth is that for most practical applications the DD-3 offers just enough.
It doesn’t have any modeling or analog sounds, it doesn’t have a stereo output either but it has a direct output which can be used very creatively.
