Physics: What is value of resistance? using a graph of voltage over time?
A 30 uF (microF) capacitor that had been charged to 30 V is discharged through a resistor. The figure (Intro 1 figure) shows the capacitor voltage as a function of time.
What is the value of the resistance? R=_____Ohms
This problem is rated at the hardest level according to the textbook. I can’t copy/paste the graph, but Delta V sub C(Capacitor Voltage)(in V) is on the y axis and t (in ms) is on the x axis. It is an exponential decay..at t=0, V=30., and at t=2 ms, V=10 V.
I think it has something to do with the time constant Tau=RC and the equation: Delta V sub C=(Delta V sub C)sub0 e^(-t/Tau). For these problems, the book has been using 0.37=e^(-1).

Tau = RC
2ms = R x 10uF
Therefore R = 2ms / 10uF
= 5 Ohms
