The mere thought of having to travel in an airline with an infant makes many parents anxious. If you too are one of them, you need not worry at all. The airline travel can be made pleasurable for both you and the infant, provided you follow a few infant airline travel guidelines and tips, described as follows.
• Although a two to three weeks old child can travel in an airplane, it is advisable to avoid traveling with a small baby less than four weeks old. This is due to the fact that newly born or few weeks old babies are unable to sustain germs and pressure fluctuations in an airplane.
• Get the tickets booked well in advance so that the eleventh hour changes in the plan, if any, can be accommodated.
• Opt for the front seats that have adequate leg space. In any case, avoid seats at the back end of the airplane as the engine noise might disturb your child.
• The time of flight should be chosen in a way that it does not disrupt the infant’s usual routine of sleep.
• Majority of airlines offer special facilities and services to those traveling with infants. Get in touch with the concerned airline for details about these services and the procedure that need to be followed to avail them on board.
• Make sure you carry along with you all the essential items, like bibs, baby wipes, blanket, baby foods, diapers, and spare clothes. However, make sure you take only what is required so as to avoid excess load.
• You and the baby should both be preferably dressed in layers to make easier the job of changing the dress in the case of a spill or a spit up.
• Breastfeeding the baby or allowing it to suck a dummy bottle will help it in dealing with the immense pressure felt in ears in the flight.
