S/N ratio and dynamic range question?
When fed with a sinusoidal input of 50 mVpp (peak-to-peak) at 1 kHz, an audio amplifier
produces a power output, in the 8-ohm load, of 50 watts just before the onset of clipping. When the input is reduced to 100 mVpp, the signal-to-noise
ratio at the output is 20 dB.
a) What is the signal-to-noise ratio in dB at the output for an input of 5 mVpp?
b) What is the dynamic range in dB at the output of the amplifier?
Thanks for the lecture Rick. They are actually assignment questions. I have done the assignment but want to check my answers with people who probably know a lot more on the subject than I do. I don’t think I copied anything wrong, but if I did, how about letting me know, so I can correct it?
