Minigolf, or in other words, miniature golf, is a miniature version of the sport called as golf. The international sports organization, known as World Minigolf Sport Federation, prefers to call it as minigolf, but it is also known by many other names. It is known as miniature golf, midget golf, goofy golf, crazy golf, extreme golf, mini-golf, shorties, mini putt, adventure golf, etc. The first minigolf was played in Europe, in the Ladies’ Putting Club, in St. Andrews situated in Scotland. It is an 18 hole course and is still in operation at present.
The British Minigolf Association or BMGA is the governing body of the sport minigolf, played in the UK. It also governs the adventure golf and crazy golf in UK. Minigolf in UK is played all over the country, and is organised by the BMGA. Some of the tournaments played by the minigolf, UK are the Hastings Open, British Masters, Midland Invitational, English Open, Castle Golf World Crazy Golf Championships, and also the British Open International Minigolf Tournament. The BMGA also offers advices to those who are planning to set up a miniature golf course and it also provides information regarding the course designers and suppliers.
The BMGA is the main governing body of minigolf UK, and some of its members are, Sean Homer, Chairman; Richard Penfound, Finance Officer; John McIver, Tournament Officer; and Tim Davies, Club Officer. Other members include Dave Forrest, Development Officer; Chris Richards, Industry Officer; Richard Gottfried, Marketing and Media Officer; Marion Homer, Membership Officer; and Keith Kellard, IT Officer.
The reigning World champion in minigolf is Marco Templin from Germany. The most famous annual minigolf tournament held for club teams is the European Cup. The most prestigious tournaments of minigolf are the US Masters, the US Open, the British Open, and the World Crazy Golf Championships.
