|
|
| I purchased the tool required (Atlas Rivet Nut Setter Model L-722-M8) in the installation instructions for the running boards and side steps, expecting to pay somewhere between $65 and $70. To my dismay, when shipping and handling was all added in it came to $98.50. I used it on the two rivet nuts, and other than that it is brand new. If there is a Tech out there that could put it to continued use, please PM me with a fair price and maybe I'll be able to recoup some of my losses. Thank you. |

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?
Did the installation go smoothly? Do you really need the tool, or do you think you could've done without it?
Just a thought -- maybe you could make the tool available for a small fee to others who need to install the side steps... |

| I was thinking of installing the boards on my truck as well. Finn, are you willing to rent out the tool or simply sell it? Please PM me. Thanx |

| The side steps are going through a revamp, I think. They might be eliminating the need for the special tool. I'l see if I can find out any details. |

I had heard that the side steps (not the running boards) had a weld corrosion problem and were recalled as they had to be replaced under warranty too frequently. I hadn't heard this affected the running boards, although they are installed the same way. |

With either side steps or running boards, the tool is required to install the deforming rivets onto the frame. I suppose someone with a welder and some steel could come up with a gadget to replicate the installation tool but I would think that it's cost would be prohibitive.
Yes, you definitely need the tool in order to overcome the high torque req'd to deform the rivets. |

| How do the aftermarket ones get installed? Do they use fewer bolts/screws? |

To date, I am unaware of any aftermerket side steps/boards that have been yet produced for the Ridgeline. |

I guess you learn something new everyday! I'm sure that the company would'nt mind sending you instructions prior to purchasing them so that you can see what the installation entails. They advertise no drilling so that in itself is a relief. The only problem with painted steps is that they eventually corrode and look horrid after a few years. That is of course if you live in a cold climate as I do where the munipalities tend to use a lot of rock salt during winter months. |

| I don't think the truck needs running boards or nerf bars because it is really easy to get out of as it is. The only reason I would like them is because under the rocker panel looks so ragged. Are the steps/bars easy to step over? |

When I test drove a demo with the side steps on, I thought they'd be an ankle biter, but after installing the boards on my wife's Ridgeline, I find they don't get in the way at all, and she and our little boy actually use and like them. |

| I simply like the looks of them and try to justify them by saying that it makes it lots easier for my elderly mother-in-law to get into and out of, but the fact is she rarely gets in or out of my Ridgeline -- I don't have them yet, but I did have them on my MDX and they were actually in the way when I got in and out but they came in real handy when I had to wash the top! 8) |

I don't advocate these guys below, but they seem to be far better priced than any of my loacal dealers (North Carolina). Read my post in
Ridgeline Aftermarket Mods » Exterior » Running Boards vs Side Step?
I'm still looking for some pics. My take on either of these is the protection it will provide for the Rocker Panel.
8mm Rivet Nut Tool (LOANER)
Install your running boards or side steps right! This is the Rivet Nut special tool that is required to install the above and below items. This tool is a loaner only.
