I have a Honda Ridgeline service bulletin dated July 2005 that says the following:
Can I tow a 5th Wheel Trailer behind a Ridgeline?
If you're asked this question by a curious 06 Ridgeline owner, the answer is NO. So far, there has been no testing on the chassis and bed to handle such a beast.

This is a Service Technical bulletin we got from the Service people concerning some other Ridgeline issues.

Sorry for the bad news...but unless you have a very small travel trailer you may be in for warranty issues if you tow something larger and the body can't handle the load (including the brakes, transmission, etc).

The Ridge can tow 5.000 lbs (500 lbs more than it's on weight) on a standard hitch, if equipt properly. I believe that , at that weight, it would require the towed vehicle to have electric or inertial brakes of it's own. If you are towing anything larger than a pop-up trailer, I would suggest using the Honda supplier hitch and trailer brake wiring harness, just to avoid warranty issues.

EDIT: Any time that the towed vehicle's weight is over 50% of the tow vehicle's weight, the towed vehicle should have some sort of braking system of it's own.

I have a 2800 lb tent trailer that I tow with the Ridgeline.

I had the hitch installed at the dealer with the harness; it came with a 4 wire pigtail for a Brake Controller, very convenient.

I love towing with this truck, 2800 lbs doesn't even make it hesitate. I also have the bed full of firewood, bikes, etc. Plus wife and 2 kids.

More packing space then the Montana we used to haul the trailer with.

I've had the truck for a year now and the only thing that I have issue with is the fuel mileage which has been discussed at length, other then that I am very happy.

I am a new owner and need the same information. I have never trailered anything larger than a dirt bike trailer and want to pull a travel trailer with my Ridgeline.
My question is the trailer is 4900 lbs fully loaded with water, gear, etc and being unfamiliar with towing I wanted to know if I can pull this trailer that is 5,000lbs with no worries about hurting the Ridge, or biting off more than I can chew.
My friends say if the limit is 5K then I should be fine but I would hate to buy this RV trailer then realize it is too much for the Ridgeline.

I have the factory tow package and the RV will have its own electric brakes.

Also, the RV salesman said I may need it to be wired for the electrics but I thought that came with the tow package.

The Ridge should tow that trailer without any problems. I notice that you are in California. If you tow in the mountains, expect terrible gas milage. :(

You'll still need an electric brake controller - the harness should have came with a separate 4-pin pigtail to use to wire in the controller. The plug for it is under the dash above the parking park. I believe it's referenced in your owner's manual so you might check it for clarification.

Hey yamaharacer#84, how about some pictures of that trailer? Seeing it hooked up to the Ridgeline would be great! I'd like to get a travel trailer of my own.

I tow a large 16' enclosed trailer with my Ridgeline, we've had it loaded up well over 6,000 lbs. and the truck pulled it well. The trailer has a load leveling hitch which helps, especially with such a heavy load since the tongue weight would really make the rear end dip.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVEr tell the dealer you are regularly towing over 5K and your tounge weight is exceeded. You will have no warranty after that...

Exceeding the weight limit when towing can cause poor handling and, more importantly, poor braking. Be careful!

That's the truth! I had my Prodigy brake controller turned up all the way with that one big 6k+ lb. load! Slow and easy, its the only way to go with such a heavy load.
