Oh man. What a sad day. I had 2 Insights and I loved them, its such a great car! Reading this story it also sounds like Honda's larger vehicles will never get hybrid options, instead they'll get diesels. Yuck. I'd much rather have a hybrid than a stinky diesel.

Diesels are much improved over the slow, noisy, smoky little beasts they used to be. These days, if you are driving a diesel, you would hardly know it. But we can't buy new ones in California anymore. That will change with the new emissions-friendly diesels that will be out in the next couple years. Diesel-Hybrid will be the wave of the future. Combining the higher MPG with the power boost of an electric drive makes too much sense to not do it. In the 80's, I had a Rabbit Diesel that got 50 MPG on the highway with the air on. I could go two weeks on a 10-gallon tank of fuel. If that little sucker had been a Hybrid, I might have gotten close to 100 MPG.

I too had TWO Rabbit diesels. I put over 120K on each one of them and not one penny for repairs.
