Just wanted to drop a quick note to all of you who may be interested in the OEM tonneau cover. The cover is set for open ordering beginning 3/17. We are not sure on shipping options at this time but as soon as we get the first one in I will pass along the information.

i didn't know that these weren't readily available yet...we just dealer traded on off today with the tonneau on it. I was not impressed with the cover, it only opens at the halfway point, and is not easily removable for loading taller cargo. The installation is a mess, drilling holes, removing panels, etc.. It took one of our better techs about 4 1/2 hrs to install this (the first one). The lock setup looks like it would be in the way if you were trying to slide something into the bed (it's mounted to the tailgate). We found that the lock would sometimes not catch the striker and leave the tailgate unlocked. All in all, I think I'll pass on one for my truck, but you guys can make your own decisions.

Luvmyhondas,

According to my call from American Honda today they won't ship till the 16th, so if you have one, it must be one of the early prototypes, that had the problems. That is why they are not available, production problems with the QA. Why did it take a tech 4 1/2 hours if you traded for one with the cover installed?

They dealer traded the one with the cover is what he said. Read closer. It appears they installed the cover then dealer traded the truck to another dealer. I am glad to get the info however. I do not believe I want one on mine. I just got mine back from having the fender flares, Cattle guard(as I call it) fog lites and auto dimming rear view mirror installed. Had the Hitch and wireing and running boards installed before I picked the truck up. Man, this is getting expensive and I am getting the parts and labor at employe price. Still want to get the wheels and I have the camera ordered but it has not arrived yet.

I think most Honda dealers have gotten at least one cover in. We just got one in on Tuesday and they are HEAVY buggers. I like the looks of it but the price is hefty and the install instructions look like a big pain.

McFly,

How heavy is heay, I mean would it be a real pain to take off for a large load? Also are they color matched like in the brochure, or do dealers paint them, or is like the model T, any color you want thats black?

And one last question, what are they made of?

Hey if you post a picture of one installed.

Thanks

OK, they are color matched to the other trim on the back. Texture finished plastic but the box I unloaded off the truck was heavy. I do not have one installed yet but i would assume it would be small task to remove it to load larger items on it. It looks exactly like the one in the brochure or go to college hills Honda site and look in there at the picture of it. Only choice is the dark color that matches the other bed rails. Minimum install time is 2 1/2 hours on a good day but expect more like 4 hours as there is a lot of items that need to be removed and modified. I like the look but the price is hefty.

Well, we got in our first cover today. The bad news is that it is too large to ship via UPS by about 5-6 lbs (95lb package). It appears we will have to make it available for local pick up only.

Their oversize 3 option is also limited to 90lbs, same with FedEx. We received our cover via Emery (truck delivery).

Yeah, it's a heavy item, that's for sure. Have not seen one in person installed but I am still considering one for my own Ridgeline. Still think it's a hefty price though.

Can you lock the cover in the open position? Thus making half the bed avaiable for tall cargo??

thanks

AFAIK, the Honda cover can be latched in the (half) open position, bu tnot locked.

I'm still leaning towards the roll-top offering. 8)

Hi

I placed my order with retrax (www.rolltopcover.com). I think I will have the best of both worlds. A full open bed all the way to a fully closed bed top. Retrax will be starting production this month. Cost of the roll top including extra gasketing and shipping finalized at $960. Installation should take between 1 - 1 1/2 hours

The site I buy all my stuff at has the Honda one and they ship UPS. I went to the UPS site and they say their weight limit is 150lbs? I don't know nobody else will ship the tonneau cover cause its well under 150lbs. They have an extra oversized shipping charge but at least its not local pickup only
