Edmunds did a Top 10 List for Residual Value for 2006 Pickups. Here's the Article:

Top 10 Pickups with the Best Residual Value for 2006
By Warren Clarke

Is there a new pickup in your future? You'll probably want to purchase one that doesn't take you to the cleaners when it comes to depreciation. With resale value in mind, we've compiled this list of the 10 trucks likely to depreciate the least during ownership. Included is the percentage of its original value that each vehicle is likely to retain after five years with an annual mileage of 15,000. Our residual value percentages are based on each vehicle's national True Market Value (TMV)® price, plus typical options and destination charge.

1 - 2006 Toyota Tacoma — 53%

2 - 2006 Toyota Tundra — 52.1%

3 - 2006 GMC Sierra 3500 — 51.5%

4 - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 — 51.4%

5 - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 — 50.6%

6 - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD — 50.2%

7 - 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 — 48%

8 - 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD — 48%

9 - 2006 Honda Ridgeline — 47.6%

10 - 2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty — 47.1%

Not to bad for the first year out, I think. considering the top truck is only 53%, 47.6 is great resale for the Ridgeline! 8)

PS: CR-V and Pilot came in 9th and 10th respectively on resale value in the SUV Top 10.

Interesting article but it's kinda comparing apples and oranges. A 350 or 3500 is a completely different vehicle than the Ridge or a Toyota. Those BIG trucks are typically commercial vehicles. The few that are sold to non-commercial customers don't represent a cross section of the buyers of those models. It's like comparing a Civic to a 9 passenger van.

True, but there are a lot of makes of pick-up trucks (44 according to Edmunds), and being in the top 10 is still pretty good, even if it is not a commercial purchase. Actually, especially if it is not a commercial purchase. Residual value is based on a lot of factors, especially demand and the projected life of the truck. Commercial trucks are supposed to be the most durable. After its first year out, the Ridgeline is running with the ones with long track records. It will be interesting to see what it does next year.

PS: There are 83 different models of SUV's.

I was at a dealer looking at another car ( sportscar ) and talking with the Dealer about my Ridgeline ( that i drove up in ) - he was telling me about how bad the Ridgeline has depreciated over the past year and how the inventorys are building blah blah blah. Now i'm not going to dump my RTL w/moon + Nav that i paid $33+k for -since i need the 4wd in the snow/mountains - but I was shocked when i told me that the car was worth $24k. In fact, it was more of an insult than a shock ( and he's quoting me wholesale of course at auction ). He then went on to say that the price has come down $3k in the past 2 months on the Ridge.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this kind of depreciation - and perhaps thats just an effect of: 1) summer months 2) high oil prices 3)ford/gm losing their pants everyday
or is this guy just an a$$h01e...

I'm going with the latter -- salesmen tell tales... a friend of mine tried to trade in a rather new sports car not too long ago and she was told that the market was saturated with sportscars and offered something ridiculously low -- I belong to a local sportscar club and I could confidently tell her that the offer was truly and insult. She traded it anyway! I would guess the dealer put it on the used car lot and made a nice chunk of change. That's business, I know, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

If you had actually traded him the Ridge, you would have seen it on his lot in a couple days for $30K. He is B.S.ing you to lowball your trade-in.

Newer trades in good condition don't go to auction. Bet if you buy that car from him and go back a year later you will get the same story.

Was it a Honda dealer?? Not likely...

My 2006 RTL w/Nav is almost a year old and only has 7k miles on it and the salesguy was telling me about "Dealer Demos for sale blah blah". I don't get offended really easily, but when he told me the reason that the Ridge won MT Truck of the Year was because of the "Youth Market" and that he didn't consider the Ridgeline a "truck" - well, he put his foot up his a$$ with me and I think i'll buy my used Porsche somewhere else.
