| I encountered a problem with the windshield wipers during a recent 2 day blizzard. When I would go into park and turn both the Ridge and wipers off, the wipers did go into the lower park postion below the hood line on the cowl. And later when I started up and turned the wipers on they would not start but made a slight motion to go down to the park postion. The problem was solved by a good clean out (which I initially failed to do) of the lower windshield and cowl area of snow and ice. So could I say the moral of the story is keep this area clean so the wipers can complete their full cycle. PS: other than this minor problem the Ridge was Great under adverse conditions. |

| I believe that the motor is torque limited, this would protect the motor. It is a good thing. That area I found can collect some snow. That would also explain the heated wiper area on the windshield, coincidence??? I think not.. |

| The area under my wipers constantly gets full of pine needles and leaves from my neighbors' trees. That's why I pulled out my Birch and planted Palms! But so far, no adverse effect to the wiper motor. |

| I encountered the same issue when a recent (rare) snow caused my blades to not fully retract. I had to keep it cleaned out from that point on. |

I think I broke my wipers today. Had a bit of snow and ice this morning, thought I had the wiper area cleaned out well enough, but they wouldn't budge when switched on. I just went and cleaned out the wiper area completely, but they still won't go on.
Do you think I may have blown the fuse? Or do you think I stripped out the mechanism? |

| My guess would be a fuse, Joe. The fuse box in the engine compartment has every size spare fuse in it along with a fuse puller. The fuse box is on the passenger side. I'll look to see if the circuit is there or in the cab box. |

| ONDLINKS, you got hit worse than I did with the weather. Don't do anything heroic, unless your RL is in the garage. Thanks, pal! |

| The Ridge is tucked away safely in the garage :) Looks like the wiper fuse is in the cab above the dead petal. circuit #11, 30 amp. There is a spare 30 in the engine fuse box, the fuse puller is the white plastic thingy hangin out there also. Hope that is what the problem is....... |

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, ONDLINKS. Seems we lost comcast, due to a storm outage, last night.
There was nothing wrong with the wipers. What I found out was the RL can't tolerate much ice buildup in the wiper area. I noticed driving home from work that the wipers were trying to move. So when I got home I completely cleared the wiper area of ice and now all is well.
I appreciate your help. You went above and beyond, thank you. |

Joe, I can help you with your problem!
#1 or is it 1#, move to a climate that doesn't get cold.
#2 or is it 2#, Tucked it away safely in the garage and drive it on nice warm days, temp above 40 degrees.
#3, Sell it, And I know you, that will not work. (LOLOLOL) |

| my wipers got frozen in the park position I had to use an ice scraper to get them working. Then I had to turn them on and shut the truck down when the wipers were not parked and chisel out that entire area. wile standing on the front tire I slipped and of course grabbed the wiper as not to fall it moved easily I thought I stripped the gear on it but it works. Also the wiper fluid thing is down there and makes it hard to get the fluid on the windshield after a few sweeps in a good snow. |

| I found that cleaning out the lower windshield and cowl area of snow or ice is much easier by leaving the wipers in the upright position. When I go into park I set the wiper speed at the lowest intermitent speed setting and when the wipers are in the upright position turn the ignition switch off.(simular procedure for change of wiper blades page 253 in the OM). PS: Clean out before starting the Ridge or wipers will go to the park position. |

| Newest addition to the emergency kit is a big spray bottle of Prestone Ice remover. I was iced in a couple of weeks ago and it took a half hour of defroster to even be able to see out the front again. |

Has anyone found a suitable windshield cover for our RL's that would cove the windshield and the wiper rest area? We are about to get hit with a snow and ice storm similar the one we had on Valentine's Day.
I'm thinking about temporarily shoving an old drop cloth into the wiper area to help keep it clear. |

have you try something like this:

or just a large plastic blue tarp. |

Thanks, Snapshot.
I saw that one and I'm not sure the 36" dimension is enough to cover the windshield and protect the wiper area. I'll take a measurement. |

Yesterday I had my second issue with the wipers.
Friday we got a dusting of about 4" of snow yesterday it was 40'F. Friday I cleaned off the truck but did not get the roof. Yesterday wile driving I came to a stop sign and all the snow started slid onto the front windshield. I used the wipers to clear the windshield as I started forward. The wipers went to the end of their travel but more snow was on the windshield and the wipers went to the return position and filled the crawl space up so the wipers couldn't get to the lower position. now with more snow on the windshield the wipers stopped working like CV-R described in the first post. I am concerned this is the second issue with wipers and snow/ice I have had. Not to mention the windshield fluid dispersing nozzles are always blocked by snow.
