Based on a suggestion by a helpful user I am thinking about converting this site to VBulletin which is probably the most popular forum software out there.
Does anyone find this site hard to use? Except for perhaps the Profile (USER CP)..its not that much different is it? Post, reply, quote..its all the same.
Give me your suggestions--I dont even know if there would be an easy way to convert this stuff but ill look into it if it is worthy |

| Probably because I'm most familiar with it, I prefer vBulletin. I think its easier to maneuver through. Just my thought. Good luck. |

| To be honest, I don't know the difference. Can you link to a site that uses it? |

To be 100% honest (and I'm not saying it because I'm a moderator), I like the operation of this board better. I find postings are easier, and I like that it has recent posts along the left-hand column when you log on. And to me, I think the User CP is a bit more intuitive than the other site, although it does have more columns to choose from here.
The one advantage vBulletin has over php is that it handles photos better, but it is limited to a much smaller size.
So, if you were asking me, I would say keep the board the way it is. If it's not too late, maybe this should be a poll.
Edit: I took the liberty of adding a poll at the top. It expires in 14 days. |

I voted for change. vBulletin operates smoother, photos upload easier and there is a whole page dedicated to "New Posts". When this site gets up into the 6K membership area you'll appreciate vBulletin.
Photos appear larger and for whatever reason look better. |

| I participate on several sites that use vBulliten and I find them much easier to navigate that PHP. I would encourage you to switch as soon a s possible. You may see an increase in membership when you do. |

I concur with joe on this as well. We're just used to the "other" one. |

You have the capability here to check all recent topics. Click on Profile above and hit the Home tab. It shows all the recent topics, and there is a pulldown menu allowing you to look at posts since your last visit all the way to a year ago.
As for the pictures, you can load a bigger picture on this board, but you have a thumbnail link to hit rather than a full-size pic. Click on the picture for a larger size. That helps those that still have to log in with dial-up, they don't have to wait for a full size picture to load, and it allows us to have a better view of your Ridgelines here. You can also post a bigger Avatar.
I'm sure there are advantages and disadvantages to each software. What it boils down to is what we are used to. For those of you used to vBulletin, I invite you to navigate around and try different things before voting. If you have questions on how to find something or do something, let me know and I'll do my best to help. Post the question here or send me an e-mail.
Have fun, and again, welcome to our site! And some of you, welcome back! |

| That would be up to our admin to change the setting. I'll email him with your request. |

| OK, thanks. I was hoping that would be a setting available to each user. |

| He used to run it at about 25 posts per page, and it would take a long time to load up for some. I asked if he could put it somewhere in the middle. |

also when you go to the main forum page
http://www.ridgeline4wd.com/index.php
there is a "view unanswered posts" and "view pasts since last visit" link in the top right.

I would like to express my opinion on this topic with no hard feelings just my 02. Personally I don't know the difference and don't give a hoot about this or that format (will there allways not be a Pro or Con) So my question is when I visit a Chevy or Mercedes Benz forum should I request they change the format to what I am used to on this or that forum ? Don't think so and must turn on the learning curve like I had to when I became a member on ROC.
Now my 02 on the upcoming vote on this topic it will turn out to be nothing but " A Gang Bang" ( Si vis amari, ama)
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on lunch. |
