Now that my health issues are getting a little more under control I think I’m ready to start getting involved in planning a Spring Meet. In recent conversations with some R4wd Members as well as a few ROC members there appears to be a significant interest in a joint club Meet.

So far I heard interest in Gettysburg and Grove City, Pa. Long Island, NY and even a return to Cape May, NJ. I would like to read more discussion on other potential locations before we run a location poll.

Personally, I like the Long Island Wine Country idea. ROC member alsridge is from Long Island and is willing to do the on site point work. It would be good to see some of the New Yorkers from the Cape May Meet again.

When suggesting a location please remember we need to appeal to our wives/SO’s to be successful. Grove City, Pa for example is full of outlet shops in a quaint setting which may appeal to the ladies.

Other considerations about a Spring Meet are we don’t want to interfere with Mother’s Day. We should also be prepared for a rainy Meet considering Spring Showers.

So folks, let’s start kicking around some serious location thoughts.

Pizza man: I will work with you on the Long Island Meet to the Wine Country. I will make the calls to the winerys and find a good place to eat. If you would to, I can look into Motel or hotel on Long Island, for the move nighters.
I would also need dates.

Za Man,

Glad to see your putting on your event planner hat! I'm sure there will be great interest from both sites. How about Vegas or the Florida Keys? OK, all the locations you mentioned work for me.

Thanks ONDLINKS. We need to hear from others with some additional location suggestions. Alsridgeline has a thread running on the ROC. Try stirring up the pot over there and see who would be willing to join in.

The mere mention of R4wd on the ROC is enough to get one banished to the cornfield, and you want to arrange that ROC members actually meet R4wd members? OMG! You are talking blasphemy man!

Of course I am just kidding! :P There may be some hint of truth in there somewhere. Just how much is a matter of opinion. I sincerely applaud the effort to promote a joint meet and open it up to all Ridgeline enthusiasts regardless of club affiliation, or even none at all. I already cast my vote for a Western PA / Eastern Ohio location but I really don't feel very strongly one way or the other. It just seems like an easy place for a lot of people to get to. It may be better suited to a mini-meet than a multi-day event.

I am up for a meet, as for location suggestion, I will drive any where in the Mid-Atlantic area. Someone mentioned OH, I can do that as well.

Hello Pizza man: I posted it on the other site about a meet. One member stated, He know a privite beach that we can go to in the summer. I would like to call so winerys to see what they can offer to use, but I would like to know dates, before I call and at the sametime, try to look out places for over night.

Welcome to R4wd RL4Life, I see from your profile you're from Pa. Where about? There's quite a few of us Pennsylvanians here. It would be great to meet another RL owner from the area. Glad to hear you can make OH, we have a few friends from there as well. Could make for a fun Meet.

Hi Alan, private beach on Long Island during the summer sounds terrific. How are the crowds there during the summer? Would the early Fall workout better?

For the Mini-Meet this Spring, how does this sound?

We'll meet in Altoona, Pa. at the Horse shoe Bend . From there we can take a Road Tour which would include six covered bridges, a Bison farm and Gravity Hill. The road tour has been setup by the Bedford Country Travel Bureau and takes about 90 minutes. I assume it would take us a bit longer for picture taking and what-not.

Afterward we can meet up for dinner at Finelli's Restaurant.

That sounds great Joe! I just received a package from the Horshoe Curve and Blair County Visitors Bureau. I looked at it quickly but I have not read through the whole thing yet. There is a Railroaders Museum in Altoona that would be interesting and it should be open again by the time that the meet is scheduled. I don't remember when their opening day is but I will check when I get home.

Cool, U-H. I just requested the same info package from Bedford County. I should have it by Wednesday. U-H, are you familiar with the restaurant?

Sounds good guys!! I just told my father about it, and since he is a big train buff, I'm sure I won't have to twist his arm much to go along.
