Is it just me or is the maintenance reminder just a little toooo early? On a vehicle with a 3,000 mile oil change interval, a maintenance reminder at 15% remaining is about 450 miles to go, and makes sense. With the Ridge's extended service interval the stupid reminder comes on at 1,000 miles to go. That means that the average drive has to look at the service warning for a month before service is actually due. I know that pressing "Reset" makes it disappear but I probably start my Ridge a 100 times in a month and it becomes an aggravation.

Morning Waterbug, I understand the irritation. Which is probably why I have the oil changed soon after seeing the MM warning. It makes me feel I'm derelict in my duties.

My first oil change warning came at 5500 miles, my second at 9900. If my math is correct that means I would have seen that warning for about 776 miles. My guess is the warning goes off at <15% because it only knows how you have been driving and not how you will be driving. So I suppose the MM is geared to give plenty of advanced warning.

At least it doesn't constantly chime!

I don't really mind it too much, but like my gas light, I ignore it as long as I can! Of course, ignoring the gas light could have some immediate consequences!

I not sure about all these electronic maintenance minder. From Alberta Canada here. And i just had service done for first time at 6600mile. Dealer did it for free. Great .. Heres the part i lost it on. The filter they used on my ridgeline is no different than a Motomaster or cheapie Fram . OH it says HONDA OEM but its made by Honeywell. We should all know that Honeywell makes Fram and Honda new filter. I cut them both open and compared not good at all. Further more the Honda OEM that came on the truck was made by FILTECH . It had more paper in it almost 12 inches more But what good is it when the bypass valve is stuck open with a piece of what looks like a sliver of a o-ring. I also work as a heavy duty service man for a living. This was unacceptable. Honda needs better filters hell with the dash monitor. Using a filter thats has the Honda logo on means nothing. Get a WIX oil filter or Purolator any thing but Honda or Fram. Fram does have a good filter it has the XG prefix on it before the number. It is by far the better of the bunch I have ever found. But when it comes to my Honda I cant lift my hood for lesser quality. 3000mi on oil hell with the maintenance minder.

Looks like someone has ben doing his homework. It does lead to a perplexing situation though. If you buy a Wix or Purolator filter as stated, you are obviously doing your own maintenance. I've found that dealers are more willing to do warranty repairs if there is a clear record of professional maintenance (dealer or otherwise). Yeah, I can do an oil change myself for half the cost of what my dealer charges, but it isn't worth the hassle.
I do not have a clue as to how the maintenance monitor works, but hopefully it would monitor oil filtration vs a clogged filter being bypassed. Logic says that when the filter is loaded and being bypassed, it is time for an oil change. Hopefully, pressure sensors on both sides of the filter would monitor that situation. If not, the maintenance monitor is just triggered by the odometer.

There aren't sensors on both sides of the oil filter. If the filter is cloged enough on 5-6k to open the bypass valve, you've got one dirty engine.

The maintenance minder countdown has nothing to do with the odometer. The PCM counts down depending on the type of driving the vehicle is being used for. My Ridge has 30k on it and I've seen the distance between oil changes be anywhere between 4500-7500 miles. More highway driving seems to extend the change interval. When I slug around in town I seem to change it more often.

If a person keeps the receipts for the oil and filter that is purchased warranty can not argue. As long as you maintain a record... It would be great if Honda used a differential pressure gauge for sensing its such a low pressure, having a filter with a bypass pressure from 8 to 11 psi would be easy to see whats going on. Its still does not address the fact that Honda accepts a low quality filter manufacture . The point here is big business needs to pay attention to these details if they are pushing are service intervals to this extent ...

When did Honda go to the lower quality filter?
