I am interested in hearing brief comments from everyone about what ridgeline4wd.com means to you and what it has done for you personally. What do you like best about the site and what do you enjoy most about participating here. You could comment on anything from the atmosphere, admin, members, product knowledge and info, events, news, Q&A, really almost anything at all. You can also comment on things that you might like to see change.
Be aware that I am working on a draft of a brochure for members to print and use so your comments could appear in print! There will only be room for a few quotes and they could be changed easily from time to time. I have gone through a lot of posts and copied a few things to quote so far but if you know of something that stands out in an existing thread, please post a link or a quote with the authors user name, or both.
There is a similar but different thread started about how you would best describe this site to a potential new member. http://www.ridgeline4wd.com/viewtopic.php?p=19364 |

At first I thought this would be a hard question to answer. So I began to think about the reasons I spend time here and before I knew it I realized how easy it would be.
R4wd affords me the opportunity to converse with other Ridgeline owners and draw from their experiences and knowledge. Not only Ridgeline related information, but also many other topics we all face in our daily lives. R4wd proves that Ridgeline owners are a great bunch of helpful folks willing to share and have fun with each other, with the Ridgeline serving as our common denominator. I find the R4wd site is administered with an openness that encourages free discussion. The forum Moderators are always there, in the background, doing their jobs knowledgeably while steering us through the sometimes-difficult topics and opinions. This is accomplished through thoughtful prodding while always keeping a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
Besides that, no place else would have me!  |

I'm not sure folks know I was a decent contributor to another RL site with topics I was familiar with on the truck. And always liked to think had my facts together (especially on the $150 'key' issue).
What disturbed me about other sites was a lack of respect, a 'gang' mentality of jumping and flaming other members, and other ways I felt 'less than' after making a contributions to it. After about 6 months I left.
Not at RL4WD.
I have felt welcomed at this site from day one; especially being a woman who does not even own the truck.
I've written many articles that I've hoped helped other owners and would-be owners, and have received praise that makes me want to continue to grow and help the site.
Feeling like you are making a CONTRIBTION...and helping others is the name of my game. And I've felt very at home and accepted on RL4WD...where there is mutual respect for all.
The internet (and owning Honda's first Truck), really brings a diverse group together as a 'family'...and I see it here on this site daily.
Thank you one and all.... |

I also agree. Well said, Kahnartist.
I think that your point about "gang mentality" hits the nail on the head. I participate on another non-automotive site that is much larger than all of the Ridgeline sites combined. Certainly there are some very active veteran members that have gotten to know each other quite well and some solid friendships have evolved. It is a very open forum and everyone, new and old, is welcome. There is not a hint of any kind of gang mentality and flaming is not tolerated by the members. The members do an excellent job of policing themselves. It is very rare that a moderator has to speak up and even then it is usually only as a friendly reminder. Voicing diverse opinions is encouraged but it must be done with respect.
I might add that, like all extended families, differences of opinion are naturally going to occur here too. The difference between R4wd and other sites is in the way that some members of other sites handle those situations. Here, differences of opinion are handled as adults with maturity, respect and consideration of others. That sure makes things a lot more enjoyable. |

Wow, U-H, what a concept here! If you care to hear what a moderator has to say on the subject......
Having been a regular poster since pretty close to the begining, I have seen a lot on this website. We have had our share of flames and spam, but for the most part this has been a pretty "clean" forum in terms of the way we communicate with each other. I think that most of the people that post here genuinely want to know about the Honda they bought or want to buy. Even the old-timers who have "seen it all" will learn something here by checking in regularly. And in all those posts, people asked good questions and were answered with respect.
When I bought my Ridgeline, I was looking for information about it and ran across this website. I became a regular contributor, and when the owner decided he needed a new moderator, I was voted in. Strange, but true. But the good thing about this forum is that it does not stop where the rubber meets the road, so to speak. We have a place for every topic here, and our members can write and post about anything they want, silly or factual, funny or cool. And even if I don't get on here as often as I would like to, it's nice to see that the discussion continues, and we still treat each other with respect. That, my friends, is golden.
You meet the nicest people in a Honda. |
