I purchased (leased) my 2007 Ridgeline RTX in May. I purposely got the RTX so we could tow a "lite weight" trailer. We got the trailer a few weeks ago. It is a 23 ft Cub by Aerolite with a GVWR of 4840 lbs. We took our first trip two weeks ago and I was somewhat disappointed in the gas mileage. First of all let me say that we live in Albuquerque, NM so there are mountains and wind in the area. We drove from Albuquerque to Carlsbad (to see the caverns) and the mileage ran from less than 8 to 11.5. With only a 22 gallon gas tank we had to make sure we had enough in the tank to get to the next town once the gauge went below one half. It was quite windy so I am sure that had a bearing. We plan to drive (and tow the trailer) back to Michigan next fall. Should I expect to get 10+ mileage once we reach level terrain? Also would having a Tonneau installed help (less wind resistance)? I like the RL and get around 17 in mostly city driving but am concerned about long distance trips with the trailer.
Thanks for any replies. |

I have read on other forums that yes, unfortunately, 8 mpg is about average for towing something to the back of the truck. I might add that this 'could' improve with your first oil change...but adding anything to the rear (like a top), won't do that much for you.
But, I can't speak from experience. I'm only passing along what I've read.
And, you are the first person I know who's towed something' large' as well.
I hope others come forward to give you info. |
