| My 2006 Ridgeline motor seems to have failed with some pretty serious internal damage. Techs are discussing with Honda engineers on how to resuscitate the patient, rebuild or replace. Anyone else out there had an engine blow? |

| My 06 is still going strong with 53k on the odo. How many miles did you put on it? What kind of conditions, etc.? |

My 06 has less than 16k on the odo, no off road, garaged and pampered. I primarily commute aprox 10 miles round trip to work 5 days a week, have only towed a boat once and a U-Haul trailer once with a sofa and a love seat as the load. At least once a month do a 100 mile plus run somewhere.
Dealership has not yet determined full extent of damage. Appears at least one of the cams is not turning. They have not yet pulled the heads to see if the values collided with the pistons. Will know more this week after dealership consults with Honda engineers. |

| Bummer to have such a dramatic problem with such a 'new' vehicle. Please keep us up to date. |

| Well have not talked about the cause yet but there are bent valves and the dealership has ordered new heads for the engine. More later after I get a probable cause of the failure and information on what remedies Honda considers acceptable for a defective engine slipping through it quality assurance, making it's way out into this truck. |

Bent valves or pushrods usually indicates a broken timing belt. (Valves remained open when piston came up). However, since they are replacing the heads, I would assume that the failure occurred in a rocker arm assembly. Failed rocker arms usually result in a valve not opening, not in a valve remaining open. It must have been a really strange failure mode.
EDIT: It is also possible that it was a broken timing belt and that Honda wants the heads for failure analysis reasons. |

| Waterbug: Thank you for the mechanical insight! This makes sense and will be very helpful in validating the dealerships opinion of what caused the engine failure. |
