Hello Everyone,

I looked at other posts related to this problem, but mine is a little different.

Vehicle description:
2007 RTS Ridgeline
1437 miles

I received this error at about 1300 miles. I checked the fuel cap and tightened it with 3 clicks and it still wouldn’t go away, so I went to the dealership and spoke with a service rep. They advised me to just give it a little time, and it should clear itself. Then I was told to wait, he wants to talk to his service manager. The service rep returned shortly and I was told they would check it out. He looked at the gauge and wanted to know how many miles I had on the truck?. I said roughly 1500 miles (can’t see mileage due to the error message) After 45 minutes sitting in the service lounge the service manager comes over and tells me it’s going to be another hour due to the “tool” to fix this problem, was broke?. I told him just to get the problem fixed. 5 minutes later, they call my name and told me everything was done? When I got to the counter, I asked to speak with this service manager that just told me it would take another hour? and was advised; “he’s gone to lunch”…

So I get in the truck, and the error message was gone. But I noticed my trip mileage (that was never reset from day of purchase) was different to my physical mileage? I now had EXACLY 1500 miles. I couldn’t figure out how I got an extra 63 miles on my truck? It never left the service area?

I called Honda Customer Service today because I am a little concerned; I feel somehow the mileage got adjusted? And I was told by the customer service center they are unable to adjust mileage on any of there vehicles.

Is there something I am missing here? As per Honda, no known recalls on the 2007 Ridgeline.

Dan

Had the 'Check Fuel Cap' come on with three quarters left in my first tank, kept resetting, drove another 150 miles with no change. Then I read the suggestion here to cycle through the whole sequence...boom...gone..thanks gents...also..I'm in South Florida...temps 65-85 the past two weeks..so I guess cold weather is not the only thing that sets it off..

This response was almost 2 years old on another thread ... I have not had the warning since it was three weeks old, I got rid of my warning by cycling through the A,B, Oil sequence a few times as suggested by another member, Colorider, I think.

As to the what or why's your mileage jumped 63 miles is a mystery .. let us know if you find out.

I got that error too soon after a bought it. I was told that it should go away in a few days, it did. Supposedly at different intervals of the tank, a sensor will check for leaks, if a "leak" is still being reported, you will continue to recieve a message, once the sensor runs a successful test and reports no leak, the message will go away. I was also told that if the problem persists more than 1 week and more than at least a full tank of gas, bring it back in but I didn't need to. He told me to make sure I click the cap at least three times when closing it.
