Recently my Ridgfe was at the dealer over the weedend because the right rear emergency brake froze up.

Because parts were going to take a few days they offered me a loaded 2007 2WD Pilot for the weekend. As I had family over that would not fit comfortably in the wifes CRV and not at all in my SS Camaro I took them up on this.

First let me say the Pilot is first rate. I can feel that it is lighter than the Ridgeline and it gets noticably better gas millage. It al most made me wish I'd bought the NAV with mine.

BUT...The 2wd SUCKED. Being front wheel drive I was constantly spinning the tires if I got too aggressive pulling out into traffic. The fact that is was raining off and on during the weekend made this even more of a problem. Long story short. I had no idea how ofter the 4WD/traction control was engaged on my ridgeline. With the Ridgeline I've gotten used to jumping into traffic without worrying about tire spin and it was quite anoying to have to deal with it on the Pilot.

So...If you love the Ridgeline and are thinking about a Pilot, and you've consittered the FWD version to save a few bucks. I would recomend that you spend the extra money for safety and convenience of the 4WD.

And if you don't think your 4WD ears its keep. Go take a 2WD Pilot for a test drive on a rainy day.

I went duck hunting the other day and due to the drought in Ga, I had to back the boat down completely off of the landing and I was sitting in nothing but a few rocks and nasty mud from the almost 3 inches or rain we got the night before, about time! Other people waiting to put in with their fwd chevys and fords were nervous watching me do this just knowing I would get stuck and keep everyone from putting in. At the next landing over, a Durmax got stuck the day before and a wrecker had to pull him out. To make a long story short, that was the first time I ever Locked in the VTM, and the conditions were no problem at all, I never spun or anything. I don't even think it was necessary to lock it in although I did it just to be on the safe side. I was quite impressed.

That's strange since the Pilot also has VSA and traction control. It should have controlled wheelspin even though it was 2WD.

While I'm not up on the 2WD Pilot, I'm not sure if it has traction control. I could spin the tires at will in the rain with no change in the throttle at all. As Far as I know the truck did nothing to stop the wheel spin.

I know it has VSA.

According to Honda, if it has VSA it has traction control.

VSA can be disabled (along with traction control) by depressing the VSA off button. You can tell that it is off by the yellow triangle illuminating in the speedo. This feature is available on all Hondas with VSA. Try this on a 2WD Pilot, you will experience what RE AND CHERYL is stating.

It had VSA, and it was turnned on. But eveidently the 2WD traction control doesn't work nearly as well as the 4WD traction control.

Either way. I like the help my 4WD quietly provides. It's so seamless I never realized the credit it deserved unitl I didn't have it.
