I just about LIVE on Craigslist...here in the Bay Area. My license plate reads: 2ndhandfan (with the hand print). I have a 2nd-hand lifestyle and see no reason to buy 'new' unless absolutely necessary.
Last week, I searched under Ridgeline in the Auto Parts area...and came upon an interesting post.
Someone in Petaluma was selling 4 tires PLUS wheels for the unheard of price of $150 total.
I was browsing because my husband was saying he was needing new tires soon, and the cost would be well over $600!
Hubby picked up tires and wheels (the alloy ones), which will be an upgrade from the stock wheelset we have on the RL. What did they call that low-grade wheel set on the RL?
Anywho...1 set of tires has good tread, the other set-so so. So, he put off the BIG purchase with this $150 purchase.
Issue is: the owner took off the TPMS sensors...
I've found them on-line to purchase...so no biggie.
Husband is currently figuring out if he should run his tires into the ground (they have 50,000 on them), and sell his stock rims. Or, get the new ones on, and buy new sensors.
What do you all suggest? |

Linda, I assume you have RT rims on your RL.
Have you checked to see if the TPMS sensors on your present rims will work on the newer alloy rims?
At 50K miles, I would consider your present tires to be pretty much done for. I haven't seen them, maybe they'll be good for another 10K. I've heard of some who have turned 60K on the OEM tires. You will need to determine how much life is left in them.
The stock rims could be sold as full size spares, but if you do remember to supply the lug nuts along with them. Also, your new alloys need a different lug nut than your stockers. Hopefully the new wheels came with the proper lug nuts. |

PM: My husband has some magic going on with his Honda's.
His Ridgeline has 60k on those original tires! His dead Prelude; same thing. He drives cool and easy and rotates often.
He did get the lug nuts with the new pair, so we're cool there. I probably will sell the steel set as spares...once he has made up his mind.
We found the TPMS sensors on-line for about $32 each, so at least we know what he's in for on the cost of those.
All and all, it was a decent deal, other than the cost of the gas driving up to Petaluma, but he was in SF...so just another hour out.
thanks for the great info! |
