Yeah, that is what I am going to do to the Toyota people here - cause
they balked on the Spray on Bedliner as agreed FACE-TO-FACE in the
parking lot after the test drive, before money was even discussed....and
I had just purchased a Tacoma from the 6 months earlier!!!!

| You seem to find the worst dealers! Hope you luck gets better as time goes on. I've never found a toyota dealership that I could stand! Walked out on two when trying get a Celica when they came out with the new body style -- even had a punk kid salesman tell me that if I couldn't afford over $600/mo. to lease one, then I shouldn't be looking at them! Had another one refuse to show me the repair ticket for a car they had on the showroom floor that had previously been damaged. He had the salesmanager tell me that if I was concerned about the damage maybe I should look for a different car! Bastards, everyone! 8) |

| I really don't get some of us. When the dealer gets a car from the manufacturer, they have to pay them for the vehicle, pay for shipping it to them, pay insurance on the vehicle while is on the lot, and for the dealership if it's not paid for, utilities, phones, and pay the salesman that sold it to you. We need to allow them some slack. How would you feel if you were the salesman. You would not feel to good looking at your salary shrinking due to people that don't want the dealer to profit anything. Hondas in general have been vehicles that sell themselves, and they have not had to resort to incentives and the sort, but with so much viable competition, it has happened, and may continue. We need to think about it some before we go try to haggle the hell out of them. I went into the Acura dealer and bought my RL, and felt good about paying sticker because I'm putting food on someones table, and clothes on their kids back, and help them get into college so they can maybe go work for Honda and keep bringing us these superior vehicles. |

| That's a great attitude, one which would be very enviable if the playing field was even, but it's not! |

Dohc89,
If they didn't make money off of us, they wouldn't have accept our offers. We can't force them to sell us a car at a loss.
I just want to minimize the amount I pay for things. My wife and I use coupons, go to Kohls when they have sales, etc etc etc. I really didn't give the sales guy that hard of a time. We had a verbal agreement, one which was agreed upon quite easily. Then they lied like most people think car sales people usually do. Finally when I went to another dealer they accepted the same deal within 15 minutes. I think they were quite happy and I got my car without getting ripped off too badly.

| When I say the playing field isn't even, maybe what I meant is that the sales side of the equation doesn't play fairly and honestly -- they want to take as much of your hard-earned cash as they can even if it results in you not being able to afford to put food on the table for your kids -- that's your problem, not theirs! I've known more than one honest guy who sells cars, but the majority of the the ones I've run into couldn't give a rat's ass about you or your family! |

DOHC89...
You sound as if you are a former car salesman, have a friend or family member in sales, or still work as a saleman currently. That was the same speach I received at a dealer I went to a couple of weeks ago. He even threw in the "I have kids to feed"! He also went on to say "you just don't understand the business" multiple times at which point I explained that I did understand and walked out. Maybe if they knew more about the vehicle than I did...but I did my homework and was ready to buy. Why is it wrong for the consumer to negotiate the best price for their family and welfare? If the car dealer can't make the deal at the price the consumer is willing to pay....all that needs to be said is "we can't...sorry". phewwww, better now! :? I thought I was over that...I better go out for a ride in my new Redrock ridge....jr |

| The most relaxed sale people I've met during this buying period were those that had no rooom to move......that includes the Ford family pricing. |

I would agree with that. Once you reach that point in the haggling it almost gets easier. |

Your joking right. I agree you must be or know a car salesman. You need to go to www.edmunds.com and read there car buying tips, and TRICKS OF A CAR SALEMAN. If you think there is NO profit below INVOICE you are very very WRONG. CAR dealers have brought this on themselves. I feel there should be ONE price and nothing more. But there job is to maximize profits. This is why you get one price and I get another. Had one dealer tell me a sob story as to why the internet is allowed to show (like edmunds), there invoice prices, but not for other types of merchandise. The honda dealer I will probably buy from said up front $100.00 over invoice, he told me to go to edmunds, build the car and it will be $100.00 over invoice.
Still think theres no profit? When you see a lot full of new cars the pricing beak down is NOT the same. The more vehicles they have of a similar model the lower the price you can get. They will deal below invoice and they will still make money. This is not so with VERY popular cars. Sorry to offend, and remember they (CAR DEALERS) brought this haggle crap on themselves. If you feel good paying full price thats you, your the buyer they love to see. |
