Chilean Miners Stuck But Saved By NASA

The world population has been patiently watching the unfolding saga of the Chilean miners trapped in a mine. It was established early on that some miners in the Chilean mine had survived, but it would take a long time before they might be rescued. National Aeronautics and Space Administration went to help save the miners. It went to the location to help advice rescue crews and miners. The Chilean miners might be there a while. Months would be required. Drilling a rescue shaft has begun, but it could be slow going.

NASA arrives in Chile

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has sent staff to the site of the Chilean mine disaster in an advisory role. Engineers and scientists from NASA have to receive supplies to any of the miners under 2,200 feet of rock. According to the Washington Post, there are three four inch-wide tubes that reach down to the chamber the 33 men are in. Oxygen goes down one tube, while the other two send supplies and video conference so families can see each other. The problem is how to get anything they’ll need down a four inch wide tube.

Advice given with encouragement

The Washington Post had an interview. This interview was with NASA former astronaut, Jerry Linenger. The Mir space station in 1997 trapped three Astronauts with a fire, although Linenger was the only American there. Linenger’s advice to the men was that they have to stay busy, however not obtain their hopes up. Depression and despair happen sometimes. This is only if expectations are too high and aren’t met. He also advised that miners shouldn’t let one person become a leader as they have to be involved in teamwork.

Camp Hope is an option

There is a camp made up of rescue workers, family members and support staff that is called Camp Hope. The mining business hopes forgiveness is within the near future. It is going to go bankrupt soon if this continues. You will find no wages for the stuck miners. It will not pay for the wages.
