Have games contributed to the low number of young golfers?

Every year sees the increase in computer game sales and every year it seems the only people really watching sports like golf and tennis are people that play them. Are the comuter games getting close to the real sports or is it just me? Do you really get any excercise at all from playing the sport in this way? The real answer to this question is . . . perhaps.  Obviously if you are buying say a golf game for the 360 or PS3 it is not going to do anything apart from save you money on one of those electric golf trolleys.

A big problem is that if you were to purchase a golf game on the wii the only part of the sport you are going to miss out on is the walking part. Let’s be honest, most pros don’t bother walking any of the way as it is. Game developers are really keen to keep making the sporting games as realistic as possible and the Wii is able to take advantage especially from this using its motion control way of playing games. When you’re playing golf it feels like you are playing golf and the same goes for tennis and any other sport where you only really use your hands. The brand new attachment for the Wii, out later this year, means that motion sensing technology is going to propel even more forward. With this new technology it is going to give the game devlopers an even bigger chance to make the games closer to reality than before. So is this really having an affect on anything? A good idea if you are short of cash and want to just have a laugh but not so great for all the time instead of playing the sport. You dont have to wear strict clothing for console golf, just switch it on and play in whatever you want.

I really do love games, but I personally think that they should stick to making the games that people that play them like and leave the sporting ones out of it. Some sports like golf involve huge talent and it would be a shame to see less and less of that develop over time because of computer games.

So next time your stuck between going out in the rain for a round of golf or plugging in the Wii for a bit of a game, stop and think, the real thing is always better so charge up those golf batteries and get playing!
