Common Eye Infections And How To Avoid Them
Whatever healthy aims we have and take sanitary measures, we all pick up an infection once in a while. Eye contagions can be amongst the most tender, tricky and upsetting for the patient. Signs include flaking eyelids, discharge, chronic red eyes, irritation, distorted vision and inflammation. Despite the precautions we take, we can still pick up a twingeing short-lived infection that call for antibiotics, eye drops and new customs to cure.
If you wear lenses, you should consider swapping your lenses to daily disposable contacts as exampled by Acuvue 1 day contacts. They are much better in terms of hygiene as you put them in the trashcan after you have worn them, which means you avoid building up bacteria on your lenses and your eyes keep clean.
If you are a regular swimmer in chlorine pools, make sure that you use correctly fitting goggles and rinse your eyes following your swim session with warm flowing water. Water that is chlorinated can cause inflammation and dehydration so use saline eyedrops for additional moisture, especially if you wear daily or monthly contact lenses.
There are many of general eye problems that can be healed with advice from your doctor and a routine of scrupulous cleanliness.
Below are some common conditions and possible treatments .
Blephartis – This widespread and non-infectious eye condition causes skin flaking of the eyelid along the eyelashes. Similar to dandruff, scaly skin accumulations can bring on low level itchiness, but no long-lasting scarring. If it recurs, then improve your cleanliness; take off eye cosmetics with a non-oil based solution. Try to stop touching or rubbing your eyes and wash your hands at regular intervals.
Pink Eye – This is usually is brought about by either bacterial, viral, or numerous allergic factors. It is contagious, so adopt hygienic measures. Do not share washcloths or towels. Wash your hands frequently and discontinue wearing eye make-up until the infection has been remedied. Severe irritation is one of the symptoms and in serious cases, a yellow pus discharge can occur.
Hordeolum – These take the form of a prominent, red swelling along the eyelash line. They usually disappear in a matter of days without treatment, but some serious cases have to be lanced by a healthcare professional and the application of antibiotic drops. If you have a stye you can get tearing of the eye, redness, pus build-up and discomfort when blinking.
Other less common conditions including Keratitis, Corneal Ulcers and Trachoma. All of these conditions are treatable with the advice of a healthcare provider and I cannot emphasise it enough, proper personal hygiene!
