Is there any way to tell visually if a 40-pin IDE cable supports cable select?

On a 40 conductor ribbon cable there will probably be a visible gap in one of the wires between the master and slave connectors and it should be marked for master and slave. On an 80 conductor cable the connectors should also be marked master and slave and the master connector is usually a different color plastic than the other two connectors.
