Discovering With Your Own Pizza At Home
Most people tend to buy pizza from a restaurant, figuring that is the only way to enjoy this tasty dish. If they do make pizza at home, it is usually from a box they got at the grocery store from the frozen section. It is not hard to make your own pizza from scratch, however. You may decide that it is a lot of fun. The pizza tastes better, too.
Before you make your own pizza, you need to do a few things. First, pick out some excellent cheeses. That is right; pick more than one. Mozzarella is important to give that stretchy quality when it melts, but add some fresh parmesan or provolone. Pick up as many as you like.
Do you have a pan? If not, you will need a good pizza pan or pizza stone to hold your crust while it bakes. Choose the one that will give you the type of crust you like and suits your budget. Stones give crisp crusts, while pans are easier to work with.
Another essential tool is a sharp knife or rotary pizza cutter. These utensils can be found in any store that stocks kitchen supplies. It makes cutting your food much easier. Just be sure you choose one that is easy to clean and easy to use.
It is true that you can buy readymade pizza dough at the grocery store, but why not make it fresh? Just take a simple pizza dough recipe and make your own. Working the dough is therapeutic and it really is not that hard to do. If you own a bread machine, it gets even simpler. Put the machine on its dough setting and let it go. If you need to make more than one, wrap your finished dough in plastic and let it sit in the refrigerator until you are ready to cook.
Next, pick out a tasty pizza sauce recipe. The sauce can make or break your pizza. Pick one that suits your tastes. Some people like the sauce to be tangy, while others prefer one that is a little sweet. They are easy to make with some canned tomatoes, spices and a pot. Do not be afraid to experiment a little to create your own unique sauce.
Pick up a few of your favorite toppings and you are ready to start cooking. Do not be afraid to play with the dough a little bit. A rolling pin works well for creating the crust; you do not have to toss it in the air. Once you have got the crust flattened out, spread your sauce on. Do not use too much or your toppings will slip right off. You just want enough to give the crust flavor.
Grate your cheese ahead of time. After your sauce, apply the cheese to the pizza generously. You want enough to get that wonderful stretchy cheese. Once you have got the cheese on evenly, add the other toppings. Favorite toppings often include mushrooms, onions, peppers, spinach, or zucchini for vegetable fans and pepperoni, sausage, hamburger, Canadian bacon, ham or salami for meat fans.
