When using a power inverter, do I need a surge suppressor?

I just installed a 2-outlet, 400 Watt power inverter, in my car– mainly to power my lap top. I know I use surge suppressors/protectors for the electronic devices in my house: Do I need to use one in the car, too?

It won’t draw additional power, and it never hurts to have protection. The biggest problem with inverters is the cheaper you go the choppier the AC wave coming out.
