Value Resistor needed to drop 2538dc to 1900 volts dc?
I have a regulator which consists of 20 bi polar transistors and a zener diode per transistor.The regulator is accross the bleeder resistors.The load draws a maximum of .225 ma.I need the load to see no more then 1900 volts dc.The load is not constant.I was told i could use a resistor with a rating of 1500 ohms 150 watts or more.I have a feeling from my last post my freind was wrong with the value he gave me.The original voltage drop voltage was 2kv
“a maximum of .225 ma.” I looks to me like there is a decimal point, i.e. 0,225mA or 0.000225A 2538V – 1900V = 638
638 x 0.000225A = 0.14W so it looks like the 150W rating is a bit high
to drop 638V at 0.000225A would require about a 3M ohm resistor, but because of the voltage a few smaller resistors in series might be better.
If that is not supposed to be a decimal point then the power rating is correct,
dropping 638V at 0.225A would require about a 3K ohm resistor, doesn’t match the value you were given.
However, if the load is not constant a series resistor will not give you a constant voltage.
You say you have a regulator, it is not clear to me where this resistor is going.
